Tinting Your Car Windows: Exploring the Different Types of Film

Enterprise Window Tinting Blogger • November 25, 2020

Are you looking to tint your car's windows? Before hopping right into the process, it's important to explore the different types of film you can get.

tinting car windows

Depending on the state you're in, there are likely laws regarding the window tint on your car. If you have the wrong percentage, you could get fined up to $200

To avoid that when tinting car windows, make sure that you know all the rules or hire someone who knows them. You should also ensure that you know what type of window tint you want.

But what are some of the different types of car window tinting? Keep reading, and we'll break them all down for you here!

Dyed Window Tint

One of the most popular window tints you can get for your car are dyed window tints. They're also one of the cheaper options.

These tints are made out of film, and there are multiple layers of dyed plastic. They adhere to your car's windows, and they're pretty strong, so you won't have to worry about them falling off.

The dye can be made as dark or light as you want, depending on the laws in your state. If there's more dye, fewer UV rays will get into your car, which will help to keep it cool.

However, one bad thing about this type of window tint is that it will fade eventually. That means you'll have to replace it at some point and it won't last forever. Since it is just a layer of plastic, they're also vulnerable to scratches or damages, which means you'd have to replace it again.

People normally install this type of tint for the aesthetics rather than the utility because they don't keep out as many rays as other tints do.

Metalized Window Tint

Metalized window tinting is kind of like a dyed film, but this one is made of metal.

They are great at filtering out rays from the sun to keep your car cool. Instead of a dye blocking it out, there are tiny pieces of metal all throughout the film, and they help to reflect the sun's rays away from your car. The metal pieces are invisible, but they're embedded throughout the film.

This tint is also great because it adds protection to your window. In case something does break it, the film is shatter-resistant, which will mean that the window will break into larger pieces which can also keep you safe.

Many people also love the look of this film because it's shinier than most of the other films. It also is more resistant to scratches.

However, this type of tint is generally more expensive because it is of a higher quality. Some people have also said they have a problem with their cell phone or radio service in a car with metalized window tints because the metal can sometimes cause interferences with the signal.

Carbon Window Tint

Carbon tints are very aesthetically pleasing because they have a matte finish. This can make the tint more subtle and tasteful than some of the other shiny or flashier ones.

A carbon window tint has carbon particles inside of the film rather than metal. Because of these particles, the tint also won't fade as fast as dyed window tints will.

They can block a lot of infrared rays from the sun, which makes it great for keeping your car cool and insulated. In the winter months, however, it will help to keep your heat trapped in the car so that you won't have to run your heater as much.

These tints also don't have the signal interference issues that some of the metalized tints do.

The downside to these is that they are harder to find, which can make them really expensive to install. However, if you're able to find them and willing to pay the money, they're one of the best options for your car.

Ceramic Window Tint

Ceramic window tint is also another great option because it combines some of the best elements out of all the other window tints.

Inside this film, there are particles that are ceramic-based, and they're also non-conductive, which means that you won't have any interference from them.

These window tints can block almost half of the solar heat without reducing your visibility too! They come in all kinds of different shades, so you'll be able to find one that you love the look of.

They also help to make your windows shatter-resistant to help keep you safe.

Crystalline Window Tint

Some people want a window tint for their car but don't want the windows to look dark. That's where a crystalline window tint comes in handy.

This type of auto window tinting will help to block out some of the UV rays and also solar heat without having to use a dark film. This makes it look like there's nothing on your car at all. This may not be the best option for people who want to block out rays and keep their privacy though.

Some people doubt that these work, but there have many tests to prove that they do work!
